Jaime drove up to Fairwinds and snickered. Such a stupid name for a ranch but then so was Soda Bluff. She pulled up to the front doors of the stable and was greeted by both unfamiliar and very familiar faces. Few that knew her were in shock that she was here. She hadn't had her hand in the ranch in years! Aftre the death of the ranch's only legend she had left the ranch tot he Akes family! She never checked in, never came by, nothing.
Jaime climbed out of her truck and walked through the doors of the stable. No one objected to her being her. Hell, she owned the place still. She and Dixie had worked out an agreement that Dixie would basically own the place but Jaime would retain certain rights to the ranch. She had kept up with the ranch from behind the scenes. Newspaper clippings on the times that whole stock clearouts had been made, shows won, and other smaller stuff. The ranch was headed down hill and Jaime knew it. That's why she was back.
Fairwinds deserved a chance just like Soda Bluff had. Dusty made her name almost household. Jaime would take back what was rightfully hers and make it thrive like old times. She pushed her way through wheel barrows and feed buckets. Such disorginaztion. Her first order of business was to go through the stable hands and pick out those that knew what they were doing. This was unacceptable.
Each horse was in its respective stall eating its brunch and she checked each horse over. Such diversity, she liked that in a way but it was too much trouble to show such different horses. She'd give it a shot. And then, she saw them. The twins. The instant she saw the pair suckling milk from their dam, she knew that the impossible was real. That bitch had used her last straw from Dusty. She had been told to get approval from Jaime before using it and here before her was the last foal, well, foals from her only one true love.
She opened the door and approached the dam. After a gentle scratch on the neck, Jaime reached to touch the foals. She had to touch them. Memphis watched carefully over her shoulder as the new stranger touched her colt and filly. She sensed something from the woman and knew she didn't mean harm.
A small tear fell from Jaime's face as she turned to exit the stall, latching it carefully behind her. She left the stable and asked an old worker of hers who was home and when she heard James, she sighed. James was the only one of the Akes trio she trusted. Unfortunately for her though, James was gone on a date and wouldn't be back for some time.
I'll talk with him later. Is all she spoke before leaving the ranch and finding a place for the night.
